Project Saysay of GNPower Dinginin Ltd. Co. (GNPD) and GNPower Mariveles Energy Center Ltd. Co (GMEC) for this month benefited a local grade school band that uses bamboo instruments.
Fourteen employees of the power plants chose to celebrate their birthdays this month with the Banda Kawayan of Mt. View Elementary School in Mariveles. Project Saysay is an outreach program of the twin power plants with employees celebrating their birthdays for a particular month pick and spend special day with the benefiting community or group.
Program Supervisor of GMEC CSR Abigail Jacinto explained to 42 members of Banda Kawayan, their parents, and teachers of the elementary school the background and aims of Project Saysay. GNPD AVP for Community Relations Arcel Madrid gave a message of inspiration. GNPD Community Social Responsibility Superintendent Joseph Paolo Mendoza also joined the outreach program.
The event was also participated by the 36 children of the Kiddie Crew program, another initiative of the twin power plants that aims to teach employees’ children on discipline and understanding the value of the family.
GNPD President and CEO Dennis B. Jordan highlighted the importance of supporting the talents of the children as he recalled his own experience. “Nagpapasalamat ako sa mga teachers na nagtiyaga talaga para turuan kami nang maayos at sa mga magulang who were always there.” He urged the students to finish their studies.
The Banda Kawayan delighted birthday celebrators with plenty of musical number and songs. They also played games with prizes together with Kiddie Crew children. Members of Banda Kawayan received school supplies, bags, cultural uniforms, and four bunbong, a revived bamboo musical. “Maraming-maraming salamat po sa inyong patuloy na pagsuporta sa amin. Salamat po sa pagbibigay ng costumes, bag, at ibang supplies”, said grateful GPTA President and Banda Kawayan Officer Roselle Alibar.
